Although it is located very close to the village of Heiligenblut, it was long regarded as the hidden gorge. Thanks to the development of a breathtaking via ferrata, the Möllschlucht has become a magnet for climbing fans. It is a particularly impressive via ferrata that leads over 420 m of steel cable and boldly constructed rope bridges through the gorge washed out by the Möll.
The Ragga Gorge is a real specialty and everyone who visits the Hohe Tauern National Park must have seen this natural spectacle. Where the Raggabach makes its way through the gorge with a wild roar, you can no longer understand your own words. The gorge is so narrow that in many places you can't even see the sky. The pathway that opens up this natural wonder and makes it accessible is a sight in itself. But what are we talking about.... come and have a look!
Here we have two gorges that connect the two National Park communities of Mallnitz and Obervellach and together form the longest gorge trail in Carinthia. The "Sinnesschluchten" gorges, as the Groppenstein and Rabisch gorges are often called, inspire with their romantic landslide scenery and fantastic waterfalls; and all this in the shadow of the picturesque Groppenstein Castle. After the long walk through both gorges, the public bus from Mallnitz takes you back to Obervellach.
Near Mühldorf in Mölltal lies the "little sister" of the Raggaschlucht gorge, whose path is well marked and cannot be overlooked. Why Barbarossa Gorge? Emperor Frederick I, known as Barbarossa, once stopped off in the gorge on his way back from one of his crusades. Tired from the war and the long journey, he fell asleep with his warriors when the devil appeared to him. You can find out what happened next along the fairytale gorge trail - an attraction for the whole family.
At the Ochsenschlucht gorge, the Feistritzbach stream emerges from the rocks of the Gailtal Alps and creates an idyllic water landscape that doesn't quite match the other gorges in the region. Nevertheless, there is plenty of space for exciting nature explorations in a natural adventure area and an exciting adventure playground for young and old. The bizarre rock towers, which have given rise to unique fauna and flora over the course of time, are particularly interesting.
Last but not least, there is a via ferrata right where the Pirkner stream has "washed" its way through the Gailtal Alps for millions of years. With its deep gorges and waterfalls, the gorge clearly shows who is in charge here. The via ferrata starts at the bottom of the valley and leads its conquerors over fantastic rope bridges and a sporty route to the Rainbow Falls. This is named after the fact that a rainbow can almost always be seen here due to the incident sunlight.
The journey of the water begins: after the eternal ice on the glacier and firn fields of the Hohe Tauern is melted by the sun and the mountain lakes become too full, the water makes its way down into the valley. In the process, it overcomes many a steep step and terrain edge at breathtaking speed and forms thundering waterfalls that are worth a visit at any time of the year.

Directly in Heiligenblut, on the shady side, a 100 m high rock face rises up. This rock face is divided by a narrow notch: Myths say that a giant carved it into the rock with a large axe. The truth is that the Gößnitzbach stream carves its way through the notch and plunges down into the valley with all its force over a 70-metre-high waterfall. An impressive natural spectacle that can be admired from the viewing platform and the nature trail.
"A virgin on the run from the devil ..." When a story begins like this, it can only be good. In any case: the fleeing virgin reaches a precipice and jumps. However, she does not fall to her death, but is carried by angels and survives, while the devil looks stupid. Today, the waters of the Zopenitzenbach stream plunge 130 meters into the valley at this spot, forming the breathtaking "Jungfernsprung". A water wonder trail with top views is included.
The Gartl Waterfall in Großkirchheim is nowhere near as high or mighty as its well-known neighbors in Heiligenblut, but it is still a magnet for visitors. The reason for this is its healthy effect. The special microclimate of finely atomized, electrically charged water droplets has a positive effect against stress and burnout symptoms. After just the third visit to the Gartl waterfall, your subjective sense of wellbeing increases. Try it out for yourself!
